Jared was such a sweet little kid. He had a problem saying some of his letters. He talked so cute. I remember once, when he was about 3 or 4, I had bought an answering machine for my house. I didn't want to leave a greeting on it, so I put my kids up to it. Sunny didn't want to say anything, so Jared stepped up and did it. After I played it back, he was listening. His eyes got big as he looked at me with excitement to hear himself on the recording. He said, "my boice is diffewent, Mom, my boice is changing." I always loved listening to him tell me things, even his own name was cute, I'd say to him, "what's your name?" He'd always answer with..."Jawed Andwew Millawd". He got over the speech thing on his own. I remember he was about 7 or 8, I noticed he was saying his r's clearly. I praised him for this. He was so excited, because the kids in the neighborhood always made fun of the way he talked. I'd tell him, you don't talk any different, they just don't hear very well. Some of the kids would call him derogatory names, like faggot, wussy, pansy, fatboy....I'd always teach him to ignore them, because they were just being ignorant. His Las Vegas friends told me a story about a time when they were all out clubbing. A guy called one of Jared's friends, out of his name. Jared didn't appreciate it and punched the guy in the face and told him, "nobody calls my friends dirty names." My boy was no stranger to name calling himself and I tried to teach him that he has to learn to ignore the ignorant, as they don't know any better. Even his own step-father, many times, would call him names. It was during these times, that even I couldn't ignore some of them, and we'd end up fighting. I never hesitated to defend my beautiful son. He was a sweet and loving boy and didn't deserve to be treated like he was.
